Fellow Spotlight: Caroline McIntyre

LCA Senior Fellow Caroline McIntyre is Managing Partner of Bergeson, LLP in San Jose, California.  During Caroline’s twenty years as an attorney with Bergeson, LLP, she has represented numerous Silicon Valley and Bay Are technology and financial industry clients – directors, officers and companies – in high-stakes individual, derivative and class action litigation and trials. Known for delivering favorable outcomes in complex securities, venture capital and business litigation, Caroline leverages her trial skills to protect clients’ interests and resolve disputes efficiently.

Experienced in state and federal court in civil bench and jury trials and appeals, Caroline manages a range of complex commercial disputes, including contract claims, fraud, stockholder claims, unfair business practices, intellectual property, and wrongful termination.  She also conducts investigations on behalf of Audit and Special Litigation Committees for both publicly and privately held companies.

An alumna of Vassar College and University of Notre Dame Law School, Caroline has received numerous honors during her legal career including the prestigious Burton Award for Legal Achievement in writing, Silicon Valley “Women of Influence 2020” (awarded by Silicon Valley Business Journal), America’s Top 100 High Stakes Litigators® for 2020, Best Lawyers® Lawyer of the Year for Litigation – Securities, San Jose, 2021, Northern California Super Lawyers® - 2005, 2006, 2008-2020, and Boss of the Year – Santa Clara County Legal Professional Association, 2014.

Caroline is a recognized leader in prominent professional organizations.  In addition to being a Senior Fellow with the Litigation Counsel of America, Caroline is a Fellow with the American Bar Foundation.  She also writes a column for the Northern California Association of Business Trial Lawyers (ABTL) Report on trial and litigation skills and has served as a faculty member for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy.

Caroline is past President and current Executive Committee Member of the Honorable William A. Ingram American Inn of Court. In addition, she is serving as Co-Leader of the newly formed Service/Outreach Pupillage Group with the Inn.

Caroline has served on the Standing Committee on Professional Conduct, United States District Court for the Northern District of California, since 2016.  The Court’s attorney discipline committee, which is constituted under Civil Local Rule 11-6(c), investigates charges or information that an attorney has engaged in unprofessional conduct before the Court, and prepares reports and recommendations to the Court based on the investigation.

Caroline is also very involved in her community.  She is President of the Board of Directors of the San Jose Wind Symphony, where she plays the French horn.  Caroline participated with SJWS in several special performances, including the prestigious Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, WASBE, the biennial conference of the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, and SJWS’s 50th and 60th anniversary concerts.

In June 2014, Caroline accompanied a group of SJWS musicians who joined musicians from across the country to form the D-Day 70 Memorial Wind Band, which was formed to perform concerts commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Normandy and the liberation of France.   The band traveled to Normandy, France to perform a special concert at Omaha Beach.  Caroline also coordinated the logistics for SJWS’s successful tour of Ireland in the summer of 2019, including concerts in San Jose’s sister city, Dublin, as well as Limerick and Killarney.

Caroline also has been an active member of the Notre Dame Club of San Jose/Silicon Valley for many years, including serving as a volunteer with the club’s monthly breakfasts for the homeless and co-chairing three committees for Notre Dame/Stanford football weekends.  In addition, Caroline has served as a Local Admissions Interviewer for Vassar College for more than twenty years.
