Texas Fellow and partner at Winston & Strawn LLP, Melanie Gray served as Honorary Chair of the United Negro College Fund’s (UNCF) 29th Annual “A Mind is…” Gala in Houston on November 18.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, UNCF is more committed than ever to its mission of helping young people go to college. The organization selected Melanie as the Gala’s Honorary Chair as a result of her “community service, contributions to education, young people, the arts, and the advancement of women.” UNCF also notes her recent recognition by Benchmark Litigation as one of Houston’s seven top female litigators.

“I am so proud to serve as Honorary Chair for this year’s Houston Gala and to do all I can to help this organization do as much good as it can. Last year, UNCF scholarships helped scores of Houston students attend college, and that will be even more important now,” says Melanie.

The gala is one of Houston's premier social events of the year, garnering the support of corporate leadership and sponsors, dignitaries, civic leaders, public officials, alumni, and other guests who support the UNCF mission of increasing the total annual number of African American college graduates. We are thrilled to report that the 2017 gala surpassed the fundraising goal of $450,000.

Chair of Winston’s Bankruptcy Litigation Practice, Melanie has earned multiple recognitions for professional excellence and public service. She was recently selected as a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America as a result of her exceptional accomplishments in litigation, both at the trial and appellate levels, and superior ethical reputation.
