Louisiana Fellow Patricia A. Krebs Named New Orleans Bar Association President

Louisiana Fellow Patricia Krebs was recently elected as the New Orleans Bar Association President. She has been with King, Krebs & Jurgens, PLLC, since its inception in 1985 and has been identified by Super Lawyers as among the top litigators in Louisiana, by Super Lawyers Corporate Counsel Edition as among the top regional business litigators, and was recognized by CityBusiness in their 2003 “Women of the Year” edition.

Most recently, she was awarded the New Orleans Bar Association’s Distinguished Maritime Lawyer Award in October 2009, the first female recipient since the award’s inception.

Patricia currently serves as Secretary of the Louisiana Bar Foundation and has served on the Board of Directors of the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel, the Board of Governors of the Louisiana State Bar Association, and the House of Delegates of the Louisiana State Bar Association. She is an American Bar Foundation Fellow, and a member of the Maritime Law Association, the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute and the Tulane Inn of Court. As the 2010 New Orleans Bar Association President, her commitment to the legal community and the City of New Orleans is evident as she helps guide the association forward, promoting its goals of diversity, service to pro bono programs and the continued improvement of the justice system.

Placing the highest emphasis on giving back, Patricia is a dedicated servant of the community. A New Orleans resident for thirty-seven years, she has served as chair, secretary, and on the board of directors of Lighthouse for the Blind as well as president, first vice-president, secretary, and on the board of the World Affairs Council. Covenant House New Orleans, a charity providing a safe haven for at-risk and homeless youth, is dear to her heart, and she is currently president of the board of directors. Patricia is also a continued supporter of the Fulbright Association, serving as Secretary of the national board and is past president of the Louisiana Chapter of the Fulbright Association. Additionally, she is a member of the New Orleans Hornets audit committee.

Born in Gilmer, Texas, Patricia graduated first in her undergraduate class from East Texas University in 1973 and obtained her M.A. in 1976 and her Ph.D. in 1980, both from Tulane University, having completed her graduate studies on a Fulbright-Hayes fellowship in Spain. She was a 1983 magna cum laude graduate of Tulane Law School and was a member of the Order of the Coif. While in law school, Patricia served on the Board of Editors of the Tulane Maritime Lawyer, was the managing editor for the 1982-1983 edition and has since published several articles. In addition to her academic achievements, Patricia is the mother of two children, Charlie Green and Brandy Beck, has four grandchildren and is married to David Krebs.
