California Fellow David Tsai,  Co-Managing Partner of the Vinson & Elkins LLP's Taipei office and also resident in the San Francisco office, has been nominated to serve a three-year term on the Board of Directors of the Bar Association of San Francisco (BASF), from 2017-2019.

Mr. Tsai, previously served on the BASF Board of Directors from 2010-2011. He also served on the BASF Barristers Club’s Board of Directors from 2009-2011; served as Diversity Director from 2009-2010; and served on the BASF Justice & Diversity Center’s Board of Directors from 2013-2015.

Mr. Tsai’s practice focuses on patent, trade secret, complex breach of contract and product defect litigation for companies innovating biotechnology (pharmaceuticals and genetic engineering), medical devices, software (Internet and mobile apps) and hardware (semiconductors, set-top boxes, smartphones, solar wafers and light-emitting diodes/LED/OLED). The BASF was founded in 1872 to provide San Francisco legal professionals with networking and pro bono opportunities to better serve the community.

Mr. Tasi's practice focuses on patent, trade secret, complex breach of contract, and product defect litigation for companies innovating biotechnology (pharmaceuticals and genetic engineering), medical devices, software (Internet and mobile apps), and hardware (semiconductors, set-top boxes, smartphones, solar wafers and light-emitting diodes/LED/OLED). His legal experience includes defending clients in international arbitration cases, litigating in the areas of copyrights and trademarks, preparing and prosecuting U.S. electrical engineering patent applications, drafting patentability, freedom-to-operate and non-infringement opinions, as well as inter partes review petitions. He also represents clients in patent negotiations, licensing and overall intellectual property strategy.
